Winchester early fourth Model 1866 Lever Action Rifle Serial no. 147166, .44 rimfire, 24” round barrel (very heavy) Near excellent bore. Very fine early 4th model ’66 with serial no. in script. Barrel and full length magazine tube retain much of original blue. Lightly cleaned metal surfaces. A few light dings & scratches, Fire blue on loading gate & extractor is still strong. Case color on hammer & top buttstock mounting screw. Oil finished walnut forend rates excellent w/ some light dings. Plain walnut buttstock rates excellent with a few light handling marks & 98% orig. varnish remaining. Though the finish of the stocks do not match they both have been with this rifle for many years. Buttplate numbered 3052 fits properly. Original front sight & sporting rear sight. A few screws show slot wear. Wonderful Investment quality 1866. The ’66 Winchester is slowly taking over the Henry value-wise. Sought by investors.
