Sharps new model 1863 cartridge-converted carbine. Serial no 89563, 50-70 CF., 22” barrel, bright bore. A few very minor handling marks.
Very good buttstock w/repair at left of top tang and behind sling bar base. No cartouche. Forend has minor handling marks. Lock is crisp & mechanically functional. Numbers match. Very good example of Civil War and Indian wars.
Very likely reconditioned after the war use.

.48 cal., flint, 41” octagon barrel, excellent bore.
Unmarked lock plate,
Simple brass front sight w/ minor engraving.
Flat top rear sight w/ small engraved chiseled extension.
Barrel marked in cursive “LM”
Dovetailed tang w/ stainless steel vent lines.
Brass nosecap, dual faceted buttplate w/ simple toeplate and down-folding patchbox.
Light engraving on brass sideplate.
Nive curly maple stock w/ fiddleback & shellflame figure – Excellent.
Stock flats show island carving w/ fleur-de-lis at rear.
Light incise carving at rear of tang and flanking each side of comb.
Incise carving at rear of square-bottom cheek piece.

1863 Type I Springfield Rifle
.58 cal. 40” round barrel.
1862 dated on lock.
1863 on top of barrel at breech
All metal light brown / blue lock & buttplate.
Left side at breech “W.J.T.D.”
Above this at breech letters “V.P. + small configuration”
Gunstock on right side has “1865” crudely carved plus large “J.A.B.”
All metal crisp – no pitting.
There is no indication mechanically, this gun was ever fired.
Top of buttplate has a carved design, and marked “U.S.”
Barrel rings & triggerguard are bright silver.
Very interesting find representative of Civil War weapons.
Rare condition.
Provenance – This gun was given by a patient to his doctor in payment for services.

Cartouche excellent with light sanding marks,
Buffington rear sight, typical walnut wood,
Dated 1873 on trapdoor & lock,
Two piece triggerguard with smooth trigger,
